Entry Requirements

You must have achieved the following minimum requirements to be eligible to apply for the North East School Alliance School Direct (tuition fee) programmes:

  1. You’ll need to hold an undergraduate degree at a minimum of a 2:2 classification, awarded by a UK higher education provider, or a recognised equivalent qualification (the National Academic recognition Information Centre, NARIC, can check the equivalence of qualifications). You will need to provide proof of this qualification (original certificate).
  1. You’ll need to have achieved a standard equivalent to Grade C/4, or above, in the GCSE examinations in English and Mathematics. You will need to provide proof of this qualification (original certificates).
  1. If you intend to train to teach pupils aged 5 to 11 (Primary KS1 & KS2), you must also have achieved a standard equivalent to a Grade C/4, or above, in a GCSE science subject examination. You will need to provide proof of this qualification (original certificate).
  1. For Secondary teaching, if your degree subject doesn’t link closely to your chosen teaching subject, you will still be able to apply by having an A Level as a minimum qualification in the subject you want to teach and undertaking a subject knowledge enhancement (SKE) course. The SKE course would be a condition of your offer, to be completed once you have accepted the offer and before you start your initial teacher training programme. A degree of any subject is generally acceptable for Primary teaching.
  1. You’ll need a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This will be undertaken by Northumbria University & will require you to provide proof of your identification (Passport/Driving Licence) and proof of your address (utility bill or similar).
  1. Having some experience in a school/classroom/working with young people would be a definite advantage.
